Building on their previous collection, for Spring/Summer 2017 Bordelle again draws inspiration from Japanese culture. This time around structural samurai elements, exquisite lace and a nod to current fashion trend of the moment, sports-luxe, combine to produce a truly unique and exquisitely crafted collection.

“Tomoe was especially beautiful, with white skin, long hair, and charming features. She was also a remarkably strong archer, and as a swordswoman she was a warrior worth a thousand, ready to confront a demon or a god, mounted or on foot.” — The Tale of the Heike.

Not surprisingly, Japanese history, like most national histories, tends to be a bit of a sausage-fest. However tales of bad-ass women do shine through and Tomoe Gozen was certainly among them. Tomoe, the Samurai, who lends her name to the collection, was a 12th century warrior. Tomoe, the collection, is fittingly fearless and ground-breaking, blending structural signature customised elastic panelling, soft sheer mesh and opulent 24K gold plated hardware.

Inspired by a modern form of Japanese martial arts, the Kendo collection is handcrafted with supple stretch-sports fabric, signature customised elastic strapping and 24K gold plated hardware. Sport-luxe like you've never seen before.

We're a winner in City Hub's 'Best of Sydney' awards!

The City Hub turned 21 this year & to celebrate the fact we live in a damn cool city filled with culture, creativity and fun, their 'Best of' awards are a homage to all the places that make it so. The list includes all of their favourite haunts, and some of ours, both on and off the beaten track.

Bordelle's Autumn/Winter 2016 collection explores the influences of Japanese art, fashion and aesthetic on Western culture. 

The designer says:

‘Geisha’ and its origin lay the foundations for the research behind the AW16/17 collection. In its literal terms, the word ‘Geisha’ refers to a performing artist and it is this notion of the literal translation that inspired Bordelle’s vision of the modern Geisha. Our muse is envisaged as strong and elegant. As tradition suggests, she is an artisan well versed in the arts of social navigation but contrary to traditional beliefs, the modern Bordelle Geisha has an attitude that conveys power and independence and acts on the desire to always put herself first.

We say:

The season is broken down into 3 ranges, 'Kinbaku' which draws from a traditional form of tight rope binding; 'Sensu' named after Japanese folding fans and featuring Bordelle's burnt red elastic and swiss fan embroidered tulle and 'Asobi' inspired by elements of origami with playful cutouts and woven and folded elastic detailing.

We love it, with each new season Bordelle continues to innovate and find creative new interpretations of their signature aesthetic. We've found the fit and finish this season to be perhaps even better with high quality fabrics and hardware that feels incredible to wear. 

The introduction of rich red elastic, unique lace, silk and sheer mesh across the collection provides a new option from the perennial black, look, we know, it takes a lot to get us out of our black but there are exceptions.

It's always a thrill to welcome a new label to the pony stables and Murmur clothing is no exception.

Designer and founder, Andreea Bădală, studied Fashion Design at the University of Arts in Bucharest and Pattern Technology at London College of Fashion. Before starting Murmur she worked with the likes of Alexander McQueen, Richard Nicoll and Emilio de la Morena. Her vision for a luxury womenswear brand entwines her two passions: lingerie and a contemporary take on the classic silhouette of the 40’s and 50’s.

Corsets, bodies and dresses are handcrafted in her own atelier with signature elements such as discreet bondage details, handmade retro bra cups and various interpretations of the suspender clip.

As with all our products, attention to detail, construction quality and materials are of the highest standards.

Murmur is worn by celebrities such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Kylie Jenner (pictured above shot by Sasha Samsonova) and featured in fashion editorials for Vogue UK, ELLE UK, WestEast Hong Kong & Grazia Italy.

The Chromat Autumn/Winter 2016 LUMINA Collection is inspired by the color theory and light explorations of conceptual artists Robert Irwin and Dan Flavin combined with the biological functions of luminescence.

Becca McCharen explores not just new colours and fabrics but whole new horizons with her latest collection for her structural, experimental fashion label.

Recently McCharen has inspired by the color theory and light explorations of conceptual artists Robert Irwin and Dan Flavin, who share a creative philosophy similar to Chromat's. "[Irwin] designed [Excursus: Homage to the Square] to engage with the museum's architectural and lighting specificities," read the exhibition's curatorial notes, "a technique he has articulated as 'site conditioned,' in which "the sculptural response draws all its cues (reasons for being) from its surroundings". So too is Chromat's architectural lingerie and athleticwear reactive to its surroundings, specifically to the female body in all its multifarious shapes and sizes. From plus-size show-opening Denise Bidot (wearing an unapologetic platinum wig and neon LED light cage) to musician and muse Juliana Huxtable (sci-fi cool in a second-skin stretch mini structured by intricate chest scaffolding) Chromat's superstar lineup of powerbabes is alway one of the show's many highlights. Dressing diverse bodies, an act most designers approach with reluctance, is something McCharen does seemingly unconsciously. The designer casts only women she finds inspirational and empowering, whether she finds them on the boards at JAG Models or behind the decks at a Club.

Another highlight is the responsive gloves made in collaboration with Intel Innovation and powered by a tiny chip module that can make the garment glow an infinite possibility of colours. Chromat's runway shows are a portal into the future of digitally optimised fashion, but any look could be equally perfect for a pool party or when you finally score an invitation from that friend of a friend with the yacht.

Our incredible new year window installation is created by the multi talented Missy.

Missy is also one half of musical duo Ginger And The Ghost, two visual artist who have transformed their imagination into song. Driven by the idea of writing and recording in a spontaneous way, they utilise whatever tools are at hand to deliver their sound. From bicycle wheels to body percussion, their music is driven by instinct, intuition, and an innate sense of trust in each other.

Combining ethereal vocals that evoke a child-like abandon and the optimism of youth, with dynamic instrumental layering, Ginger And The Ghost have craft an epic yet grounded sound.

In March 2013 Ginger And The Ghost generated a huge buzz from their successful North American tour, encompassing six SXSW Austin shows, Canadian Music Week, Detroit, four New York/Brooklyn shows ending with a sold out San Francisco show w/Poolside.

Missy's work on display are from the body of work 'Anatomical Botanical' and include:

Featured are Sofia's ‘Man of War jellyfish’ sculpture and window illustration art. The Man of War sculptures are hand sculpted in wax and hand cast in resin with LED lights, brass wire & chain, gold leafed perspex stands. For Sofia, the Man of War jellyfish sculpture symbolises the destruction humanity creates as a colony and collective while highlighting their venerability and fragility. The jellyfish was named after the old sailing ships that carried great destructive power, like the sting from the jellyfish, but in truth humanity is by far the most destructive thing on the planet.

The Portuguese man-of-war looks like a jellyfish, but it is not a true jellyfish. In fact, it is not even a single animal. It is a siphonophore, which is an animal made up of a colony of organisms that work together. Specifically, the man-of-war consists of four separate polyps. The top polyp is a gas-filled bladder that reminded people of the sails on the once common ship known as a ‘man-of-war’.

The sculpture is supported by hand drawn illustrations on the store windows and our product display featuring some of our Halloween party essentials to cover your booooo-bies, because if you got it, you gotta haunt it.

We're thrilled to bring another cutting edge label to the pony stables. Hand made in New York, Becca McCharen's theoretical background in architecture and urban design informs her highly unique and structural aesthetic. This season introduces translucent looks utilising TPU, an eco-friendly alternative to rubber along with latex and other synthetic materials.

The collection is inspired by Martine Rothblatt, the highest paid female CEO in the USA who happens to also be transgender. Becca was struck by Rothblatt's creation of a 'mind file' of her wife, Bina, essentially Bina's complete digital history, "What just clicked in my head was if we can recreate the human consciousness, there’s nothing we can’t digitally or synthetically reproduce, so that inspired our whole palette." she has said.

Chromat has been worn by the likes of Beyoncé, Madonna, Nicki Minaj and, our fave, FKA twigs.

We love the level of social awareness that Becca brings to her work, such as in the casting of her latest runway show. Diversity, in terms of ethnicity, size and gender expression were front and centre "I’m so against all white, straight, skinny girl runways, that just doesn’t reflect my reality and who I am and who the Chromat woman is. And so for every season, we’ve been all about strong, powerful women."
